Promesa Works

The studio

About Promesa Works

Pretty much every developer dreams of having their own studio and publishing their own games and apps. Promesa Works is one of those studios, a home for these projects.

Why "Promesa"?

Naming a studio is hard, and actually building one is harder. Along the way you run into a hundred things that have nothing to do with development, and into the "reality of the industry": fierce competition, people selling their product at any cost, misleading ads and promises that aren't true... Anything to catch the consumer's eye. It's easy to lose your way in all of that.

The original idea was to call it "Promiseless Works", as in "no promises". But it sounded way too negative, right? So instead, it became Promesa, Spanish for "promise".

It's called Promesa because it's a personal promise to try to make honest products, and a reminder of where to come back to when we drift. Because we will drift sometimes. That's for sure.

Here's what that means in practice: no tricks, no "results in 2 days", no mediocre products built only to push subscriptions. We want to create apps you can actually use and rely on.

But don't get me wrong, this is still a business. There are people working, services and resources to pay for, and we all need to eat. The goal is to make products that are useful and honest, and worth paying for.

What's here

All our projects were born out of a need or simple curiosity.

Wakarii was born from a need to learn Japanese and centralize tools and knowledge. Mingbaii became its twin for Chinese, and more languages may follow if curiosity takes us there.

Tea Hamsters is a simple game that started as a way for me, the developer, to learn.

And there are more projects on the horizon.

What they have in common is that all of them started from curiosity, and we want them to stay honest.

So that's what Promesa Works is.

Mauro Sanchez

Founder.

I won't sugarcoat this: I'm a self-taught programmer who got lucky enough to build a career as a game developer. I'm driven by curiosity, and I try to optimize for honesty.

These projects are a result of that.

Hope you enjoy them.
